The Chandigarh Housing Board (CHB) will auction the items returned by former CHB chief executive officer (CEO) SB Deepak Kumar. The action against the officer will be decided in the board’s governing body meeting on July 20.
Till Saturday evening, Deepak Kumar returned an LED (49-inch) costing Rs 1.45 lakh, a king-size double bed worth Rs 92,000, a mattress worth Rs 35,000, a Rs 16,500 microwave and Masai Arm chairs table set, Williams side tables, Lyon end tables, Balinae patio swing, costing Rs 72,000.
Deepak Kumar is yet to return a sofa set worth Rs 63,000, curtains (Rs 1.5 lakh), 5 air-conditioners (Rs 2.33 lakh).
When contacted, board chairman Maninder Singh said as far as the action is concerned, let the governing body of the board decide on July 20.
Board member Tarsem Garg said, “We will auction the items and the balance amount will be recovered from the officer. Public money has been wasted and just returning the goods is not enough. We want the money to be recovered from the officer, who even bought an iron from the board’s fund,” Garg said.
Another board member Prem Kaushik said, “These items are useless for the board and I will suggest in the governing body meet that these should be returned to Deepak Kumar and the entire money should be recovered from him. In case, the money is not deducted, we will write to the central government for the recovery as huge public money has been wasted, Kaushik said.
