Chemist murdered in Moga, four booked

A chemist was murdered by some armed miscreants at his shop on the Amritsar road here late Monday evening. Police said that the deceased has been identified as Deepak Kumar, 26, owner of the Grover Medical Hall. Jaswarinder Singh, station house officer (SHO) of the city police station, said that during the primary investigations, the police found that four miscreants, who are also involved in various cases of robbery, came on a three- wheeler to the shop and demanded some habit-forming drugs. "While Deepak refused give them drugs, they tried to snatch money from him. When Deepak resisted, they opened fire with a revolver at the chemist and ran away. Some local residents rushed him to a nearby private hospital where doctors declared him dead," said SHO.

The police have arrested one of them Mandeep Kumar while others are still at large. Harjit Singh Pannu, superintendent of police (detective), said, "A case has been registered against Mandeep Kumar, Deepu, residents of Gurha in Phillaur; Petor, a resident of Jagraon (Ludhiana) and Sunny, a resident of Hoshiarpur under sections 302 of the Indian Penal Code and 25, 54, 59 of the arms Act at Moga city police station on the complaint of Sanjeev Kumar, a close relative of the deceased."
