On the call of All India Organisation of Chemists and Druggists (AIOCD), district chemist association observed complete strike on Friday in pursuance of their demands.

All wholesale and retail chemists shutdown and held a rally outside the civil hospital which was addressed by district president Anil Sood and general secretary Rajesh Walia.

Later, they submitted a memorandum to the SDM, demanding amendment in Drug and Cosmetic Act so as to safeguard the chemists from the penal clauses.

They said that at the time of registering of a case under section 19 of the Act, chemists be kept as mere witnesses and not as accused. They opposed foreign direct investment in medicine trade and demanded increase in profit percentage to the chemists in the new drug policy.

The strike hit the common man hard. The jan aushadhalya in the hospital and the shops in nursing homes operated as usual.
