Chhotepur defends Mann, says rivals raking up non-issue to divert attention

Coming out in defence of party MP Bhagwant Mann, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) state convener Sucha Singh Chhotepur on Saturday said the video recorded by the comedian-turned-politician was not aimed to breach the Parliament security, but to make people aware about the procedure through which questions are selected to be raised in the Lok Sabha.

“People always expect their MP to raise their issues in the Parliament, and Mann wanted to make them aware about the draw system, through which 20 of more than 150 questions are selected to be raised on a particular day in the Lok Sabha, making an MP helpless while wanting to take up matters concerning his constituency,” said Chhotepur.

Condemning rival parties of raking up a “non-issue” in the Parliament, Chhotepur said they are trying to divert the attention of lawmakers from other key issues, such as atrocities on Dalits in Gujarat, violence in Kashmir and row over adverse remarks against BSP head Mayawati.
