Sexual abuse at a local play school came to light on Thursday when the victim (3) identified a peon as the culprit. In the morning, she refused to go to school, telling her mother that she was scared of the man who escorted her from the classroom to the exit gate. The parents took the child to the school, where at a staff parade, she pointed a finger at peon Amandip (25), who was then handed over to police.
The child claims that the man, who is from Rahimpur Colony here, use to abuse her after school break. Before dropping her at the gate, he would take her to a vacant room, suggests the report. The Delhi Public School administration had employed him only a few days ago.
The parents accused the school authorities of being careless about child safety. Principal G Maria Jones condemned the incident but declined to take responsibility for it, arguing that this sort of crime could happen anywhere. Station house officer (SHO) concerned Talwinder Singh said police had booked the peon under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act and Section 376 (punishment for rape) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
