Child security officer Shilpa Jindal and her brother Rohit Jindal have been arrested on the charge of taking bribe.
According to the vigilance bureau (VB), the duo, along with Rohit’s employee Ravi Parkash Dubey, hatched a conspiracy to mint money from local resident Paramjit Kaur for sending her mentally ill grand-daughter to an orphanage. Rohit, posing as a senior officer, demanded a bribe of Rs 70,000 from the woman. The deal was struck for Rs 50,000.
On Friday, Shilpa and Rohit sent Dubey to collect money from the woman. However, a VB team conducted a raid and arrested the trio while they were accepting bribe.
A case under sections 7, 8 and 13 (2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act and sections 419, 420 and 120-B of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered against the accused.
Senior superintendent of police (vigilance) Satinder Singh said the complainant, Paramjit Kaur, had stated that her son-in-law MD Abdullah was lodged in Tihar jail and her seven-year-old grand-daughter was living with her.
Abdullah wrote a letter to the women and child welfare department of the central government and demanded that his daughter be sent to a government-run orphanage. The department forwarded the case to the Ludhiana deputy commissioner, who ordered the child to be shifted to the All India Pingalwara Society in Amritsar through the social security department.
When Paramjit approached Shilpa, district child security officer, the latter asked her to contact her senior ‘Pankaj’, claiming that the case was complicated. The SSP said Rohit Jindal, posing as a senior officer, met Paramjit and demanded bribe from her.
On Friday, Rohit asked the complainant to hand over the cash to his junior, Dubey. As the latter had accepted the bribe, VB sleuths nabbed him too.
