As dense fog has enveloped the city these days, deputy commissioner (DC) Rajat Aggarwal has directed all the schools to suspend classes for the students from nursery to Class 8 from January 14 to January 17. The schools will reopen on January 19.

Talking to Hindustan Times, Aggarwal said, “The district transport officer (DTO) has informed us that a lot of accidents are taking place in the city due to fog. Even civil surgeon has reported that in this cold weather, children can suffer from various diseases. So I have directed all the schools to suspend classes for the students of nursery to Class 8 from January 14 to 17.”

BCM Arya Model Senior Secondary School, Shastri Nagar, principal Paramjit Kaur said, “Our school was going to reopen after winter break tomorrow. But we will comply with the DC’s orders. We have informed the bus drivers about it and messages are being sent to the parents regarding the extension in the winter break. As we are starting with the formative assessments for Class 6 to 8, we have decided to suspend classes for students of nursery till Class 5.”

Meanwhile, the DC has allowed to conduct mathematics and science olympiad that is scheduled to be held on January 14 and 950 students of Class 6 and 8 of the government schools will appear in the district-level olympiad.
