Over a 100 MBBS students at the Chintpurni Medical College, Pathankot, with their parents, met the vice-chancellor of Baba Farid University of Health Sciences (BFUHS), Faridkot, on Monday, demanding that they be shifted from the college.
“With the MCI not recognising the college, students are not eligible for registration with the state medical council and thus will not be able to start private practice, take up a government job or join a post-graduate course,” they have alleged in their submission to the VC.
Members of the delegation claimed to have met MCI chairman (academics) and were reportedly told that that the college had been running illegally since 2012.
“We want the BFUHS to intervene and ensure that we are shifted to some other recognised college to salvage our future,” they said.
When contacted, Chintpurni Medical College chairman Swarn Salaria rubbished said. “This batch has been admitted after due permission from the MCI and others and the nod still holds. The BFUHS is conducting examinations and will also award degrees. Where is the problem?”
