The investors who were duped in the chit-fund scam by Pearl Group staged a protest here on Wednesday, demanding a refund by auctioning the assets of the firm.
About 5.5 crore investors all over India have been duped in the ponzi scam worth ₹45,000 crore.
The investors formed an organisation ‘Insaaf Di Lehar Punjab’ to raise their demand and took out a protest march here. The protesters then gathered in front of the district administrative complex raising slogans against the central government.
President of the organisation, Kulwant Singh Bhullar said that as per the directions of Supreme Court in February 2016, the assets of the group should have been auctioned and investors been paid their amount back, but nothing has been done regarding this.
He said that the organisation will also demand from the central and state governments to pass a bill in Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha to prevent such scams in the future.
He said that since Congress leadership had assured them of addressing their issue during campaigning for Punjab assembly elections, they will also raise the issue before Captain Amarinder Singh, who is going to be the chief minister of Punjab.
