Residents of several areas have been facing the problem of choked drainage for the last six months, as the civic authorities have failed to address the problem.

The residents of Dhoop Ghat, Nabha Gate and Khalsa mohalla are most affected by the problem and blamed the civic authorities of neglecting the problem.

The residents said the civic authorities failed to provide a tangible solution to the problem and provide temporary solutions.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Swachh Bharat Abhiyan has motivated many people and officials to keep the city clean. However, the drive was limited to only a few areas of the city and hardly changed the indifferent attitude of the MC officials, they said.

Expressing anguish over the issue, Surinder Singh, a resident of Dhoop mohalla, said: “The unhygienic condition is prevailing for the past many years as the civic authorities failed to take serious note of the choked drainage that often led to overflow of sewerage water.”

Gurvinder Singh, another resident of the same area, said: “It’s difficult to live in such a condition and urged to the administration to also provide immediate relief from the stray animal menace.
