Appreciating the Jalandhar district electoral officer 's innovative idea of aerial showering of pamphlets motivating people to cast their vote, the state chief electoral officer has decided to launch a similar drive all over Punjab.

The chief electoral officer has decided to use helicopter services from April 15 to 22 to shower specially designed pamphlets to attract the people to polling booths to exercise their franchise in the coming Lok Sabha elections.

Varun Roojam, district electoral officer and deputy commissioner, said that having planned to implement this idea in Jalandhar, he had sent a proposal to chief electoral officer VK Singh to adopt it statewide.
The proposal has been accepted and the state election office is going to hire a private firm from Chandigarh to implement this project.

"Different days will be fixed for various districts to shower such pamphlets throughout the state. The chopper will move for one hour in each district so as to reach a majority of the people in urban to rural areas. The aerial showering of pamphlets can have a vast reach and the people are likely to get motivated through such a novel scheme", he added.

The chief electoral office has also tied up with the civil aviation department of Chandigarh for its co-operation in this regard, he said.

An official from the chief electoral office informed that they are planning to give the related contract to one of the flying clubs at Chandigarh which would provide chopper services at a subsidised rate.
