Church vandalism case: NHRC issues notice to Haryana govt

Taking suo motu cognizance of a media report that an under construction church was attacked in Hisar district on March 15, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has issued a notice to the Haryana Government and sought a reply within two weeks.

Taking suo motu cognizance of a media report that an under construction church was attacked in Hisar district on March 15, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has issued a notice to the Haryana Government and sought a reply within two weeks.

According to reports, the police have registered a case against 14 people but no arrests have been made so far.

The NHRC issued notices to the chief secretary and director general of police, Haryana, calling for reports within two weeks. They have also been directed to report what steps were being taken for the protection of religious places of minorities in the state.

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has also demanded a comprehensive report on the desecration of an under-construction church from the Haryana government.

The MHA has asked the state government to find out if any group was involved in the incident.

The MHA has also urged the Haryana Government to take steps to protect minority religious institutions and to ensure that no such incident occurs in the future. (ANI)
