“If Mumbai police can do it within two days of the crime, why can't Ludhiana police,” told a Dehlon Gang- rape victim to Ludhiana police commissioner Paramjit Singh Gill on Monday, demanding immediate arrest of the accused.
The woman who had been running from pillars to posts to for the last three months for justice, alleged the police of dilly-dallying over the arrest of the accused.
The victim, who was an insurance agent, further alleged that police in collusion with the accused “intentionally” prolonging the arrest; and, thus allowing the accused to have free run.
On May 9, the accused - Gurtej Singh, Simarjit Singh and a non-resident Indian (NRI) Parminder Singh - had called her near Gill Chowk on the pretext of buying an insurance policy, she said, alleging that they ferried her in a car to a room near Sarinh village and gang-raped her.
Following the incident she lodged an FIR against the trio in this connection. Police arrested Gurtej and had sent him to jail, while other accused Simarjit and Parminder were roaming freely, she claimed.
She said that it was the third time in three months that she had turned up to police, but the officer concern was hardy paying heed to her pleas.
On the other hand, she claimed, relatives of the accused had been threatening her, asking her to withdraw the complaint.
She said that she had also made a complaint to Prime Minister, chief minister and director general of police (DGP) seeking their intervention in the case.
