Chandigarh: On the birth anniversaries of father of the nation Mahatma Gandhi and former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri, City Congress unit remembered the leaders and paid floral tributes at a function held at Mauli Jagran on Friday.

Pawan Kumar Bansal, former Union minister, city Congress chief Pardeep Chhbara and many senior leaders were present on the occasion.

Bansal said Gandhi had introduced the idea of getting justice through non-violence, which was embraced by the entire world. “The philosophy, principles and policies of Mahatma Gandhi are still very relevant,” he said, adding the BJP government, owing to its anti-government policies, had made life difficult for the poor.

Chhabra said both the leaders had dreamt of a country free of poverty, illiteracy and inequality. “We must resolve to take our country to that stage,” he added.
