Dhruv Kapila, a former player at Ludhiana Badminton Academy (LBA), won the first All India SubJunior Ranking Badminton Tournament at Bhagalpur, Bihar, on Monday.

Dhruv, along with his partner Jaswanth, defeated Vaibhav Chauhan and PJ Gogoi 15-21, 22-20, 22-20. This was the toughest match of the tournament as it went to three sets. Despite losing the first set, Dhruv and his partner held their nerves to become champions for the first time.

Dhruv has been training at Pullela Gopichand Academy since 2011 under the professional guidance of national coach Gopi Chand.

Dhruv, a student of BCM School, Ludhiana, was well supported by the school authorities.
Dhruv started playing at the tender age of seven at the Ludhiana Badminton Academy (LBA).

He has also won Punjab state championship in singles and doubles in under 10, 13 and 15 categories.

“Dhruv was greatly inspired by the success of international player from Ludhiana Pranaav Jerry Chopra. Though it was a tough decision for his parents to send him to Hyderabad for training, their sacrifice has paid the price, ”said MK Chopra, president, the LBA.
