City people switching to yoga to stay fit

People in the city are switching to yoga to procure physical and mental fitness, which also helps the patients to recover early from their illnesses.

With people becoming more health conscious, one can see residents of different localities practicing yoga in parks and gardens to make themselves free from diseases and other health problems.

City-based doctors are also now advising patients to practise yoga to avoid health problem and also for early recovery.

Head of medicine department at Gurdev Hospital Dr Tarun Bajaj said, "Yoga is very beneficial for health as it helps to recover from many health problems, including blood pressure, diabetes and stress. But it should be done under qualified instructor so that a one should not do wrong steps that can be harmful."

A resident of Rajguru Nagar Usha Maini said, "I had back and joint pain for past many years but after joining yoga classes for only a month, I got relief. These classes help me a lot and make me more energetic. There are many people who got relieved from health problems in due to these classes".

"I have controlled hypertension and obesity by taking yoga classes. Everybody should do yoga to avoid health problems," said Sushma Jaiswal, a resident of Rajguru Nagar.

Yoga instructor Ranjay Kumar said, "Yoga is a practical aid. The continued practice of yoga will lead you to a sense of peace and well-being and also a feeling of being at one with the environment."

There are many yoga steps such as tadasan, trikonasan, bhujangasan, shlvasan, makrasan, shavasan , various pranayam (gahre lambe swas, anulom vilom , bhramri) and dhyan, which can be practised by people to make themselves healthy.

Dr Naved Aslam, cardiologist at Hero DMC Heart Institute Ludhiana, said "Yoga practicing is complementary to heart patients as only medicine cannot cure the problem. These things are complimentary to each other not replacement in them."
