The accused has been identified as Basti Jodhewal resident Sunil Kumar, a student of BA LLB. Rs 11,700, a knife, four mobile phones and a motorcycle, which was snatched, were recovered from his possession.
Division number 5 station house officer (SHO), inspector Beant Juneja said a police team signalled a biker to stop for checking at a barricade, when the accused tried to escape. He was arrested after a brief chase by the cops.
According to the police, Sunil admitted that he was involved in five snatching incidents in Ludhiana. The accused claimed that he was studying at a private university and was unable to pay his fees.
He was also involved in snatching the valuables from a Delhi resident recently.
Kochar market police post in-charge, sub-inspector Navdeep Singh said that the family of the accused was facing financial crunch due to which he became a criminal. The accused has been sent on a two-day police remand by the court.
