City's Sarah, Mritunjay enter AITA quarterfinals

Sarah Dev of Punjab and a Harvest Tennis Academy trainee and Prinkle Singh of Jammu and Kashmir stormed into the quarterfinals in both girls' under-14 and under-16 age groups in the AITA Super Series tennis tournament being played at Harvest Tennis Academy in Jassowal on Tuesday.

In the under-14 event, second seed Sarah defeated Sanya Singh of Maharashtra 6-2, 6-1, while in the under-16 she got the better of Anu Verma of Delhi 6-3, 6-3. Prinkle Singh also had easy outings in both age groups. Top seed in girls' under-14, Prinkle outclassed Rahat Mangat of Chandigarh 6-0, 6-3. Seeded second in the under-16 Prinkle made a short work of Harvest Academy trainee Ivona Plecevic 6-4, 6-1.

The under-16 top seed Aarushi Kakkar of Chandigarh also had an easy outing disposing off Gunjan Agarwal 6-4, 6-2 to book her berth in the last 16.

In the boys' under-14 Chandigarh lads had good outing. Sixth seed Calvin N Golmei defeated Udit Kumar Kamboj of Haryana 6-2, 6-3, while fourth seed Kabir Manrai had a short work of Abhimanyu Rozra 6-3, 6-4. Neeraj Yashpaul of Chandigarh defeated Dipin Wadhwa of Delhi 6-4, 6-2 to book his berth in the quarterfinals.

Mritunjay Badola being seventh seed in boys under-16 had to pull all his efforts to win over his fellow trainee Aditya Vashisht of Rajasthan 2-6, 6-3, 7-5 which took him more than three hours.
