Commuters face a lot of inconvenience as these vehicles are parked for long outside commercial establishments on the Ferozepur Road.
Unauthorised parking can be seen in the service lanes from Bhai Bala Chowk to Aarti Chowk and from Sidhwan Canal to Octroi Post. Vehicles are parked in the service lanes outside a prominent hotel and a milk agency on Ferozepur Road.
“It is the responsibility of the authorities concerned to check that there should be no encroachment in the service lanes so that people can move easily. Laws should be equal for all and the court orders should be implemented strictly. Parking of vehicles in service lanes is a nuisance,” said social activist Manjit Singh Mehram.
“Some people do not even make an effort to park their vehicle in the parking areas of commercial establishments, but just park in the service lanes, violating norms,” he added.
Superintendent of the tehbazaari wing Jasdev Singh Sekhon said, “Nobody can park vehicles in the service lanes and the traffic police have the authority to take action against violators.”
On the other hand, traffic incharge Vinod Kumar claimed that they were following the directions by issuing challans to those who park vehicles in the service lanes. “We conduct checking daily but nobody has complained to us that vehicles are being parked in the service lanes since long,” he further claimed.
