A group of miscreants allegedly attacked Congress candidate from ward No. 63, Palwinder Singh Taggar near Kwality Chowk on Saturday evening.

The accused allegedly tried to run a car over Taggar, but he managed to escape. The assailants allegedly assaulted Taggar and some of his supporters.

In the incident, Taggar and his two supporters - Santokh Singh and Harjinder Singh - sustained injuries.

In resentment, Taggar along with his supporters jammed the Chimni road and sought strict action against the accused. He accused sitting councillor and SAD candidate Jagbir Singh Sokhi for the assault.

ACP (Atam Nagar) Muktiar Singh intervened in the matter and assured appropriate action.

According to Taggar, he was campaigning along with his supporters at Kwality Chowk area. He alleged that Sokhi's supporters encircled them and tried to run their car over them and assaulted him.

He alleged that Sokhi had sent the assailants who had been declared proclaimed offenders in the tehsildar assault case.

However, Sokhi alleged that Taggar and his supporters assaulted and injured two of his supporters. He has filed a complaint in this regard. He alleged that Taggar had made a false complaint against him.

Sources said the above said groups entered into a clash in 2009 during the Parliamentary elections and framed complaints each other.
