A Class-9 student stabbed a Class-7 student in his stomach with a compass over a petty issue at Arya Senior Secondary School in Khanna on Saturday.

The victim, 13-year-old Amandeep of Model Town, has been admitted to the emergency ward of Dayanand Medical College and Hospital, Ludhiana. His condition is stated to be stable.

The school management, meanwhile, has decided to restrict entry of outsiders into the school.

The 15-year-old accused was booked under Section 307 (attempt to murder) of the Indian Penal Code and produced in court. He has been sent to a juvenile home.

Sources said the two boys entered into a brawl after Amandeep refused to follow the other’s instructions, but the victim’s brother intervened. The elder boy wanted Amandeep not to interact with another group of students.

After the school ended, the accused alleged stabbed Amandeep with a compass in his stomach. The whole incident was captured by CCTV cameras installed at the school gate.

Amandeep started bleeding profusely and was rushed to the Khanna civil hospital, from where he was referred to DMCH.

Khanna senior superintendent of police (SSP) Navjot Singh Mahal said it was an ordinary fight between students that turned ugly.
