A division bench of the Punjab and Haryana high court has directed Punjab to prepare two tentative merit lists for 181 posts of clerks.
These posts remained vacant in the recruitment for 1,192 posts advertised in 2013 due to various reasons.
The high court bench of justice Rajive Bhalla and justice Lisa Gill directed the state to prepare one list on the basis of posts available to separate categories and the other by disregarding common categories and place the same before the high court on April 1.
One of the counsel in case, Sardavinder Goyal, said a backward class category candidate had moved the application for impleading those belonging to this category as party in the matter, submitting that they had obtained higher marks than general category candidates and the state should consider merging the two lists.
The petition was initially filed by a general category candidate seeking direction to the government to fill up the vacant posts against the advertisement issued in 2013 for recruitment of 1,192 posts of clerks. In the 181 vacant posts, 87 are for general category, 55 for backward class, 37 for scheduled castes and two for physically handicapped.
