Leader of the Haryana Congress Legislature Party Kiran Choudhry on Thursday condemned the "meagre" hike of Rs 50 in the minimum support price (MSP) on paddy and demanded Rs 300 bonus on it.
Stating that the MSP was reflective of the anti-farmer approach of the Narendra Modi government, she demanded Rs 300 per quintal bonus on the pattern of wheat.
"The chief minister ML Khattar-led Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in Haryana should pay bonus to protect the interests of the farmers of the state," she said.
The former excise and taxation minister, Choudhry, recalled that the UPA government, which had affected an average (annual) hike of Rs 76 during its 10-year tenure, increased the MSP for paddy from Rs 550 to Rs 1,310 per quintal between 2003-04 and 2013-14.
For A grade varieties, the MSP was increased from Rs 580 to Rs 1,345 per quintal. "Looks, the framers will never have achhe din under the BJP governments," she added.
