Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal,on Sunday, visited various villages of Arniwala tehsil of Fazilka district and conducted a survey of the crops hit by rain, waterlogging and hailstorm.
Badal expressed solidarity with farmers and assured them that the state government stood by them in such a crucial time.
Accompanied by Ravinder Singh and Jaskiran Singh, deputy commissioners of Fazilka and Muktsar districts respectively, Badal asked officials to conduct a 'special girdawri' of the affected areas so that the affected farmers could be compensated accordingly.
"The overflow of water from village ponds and waterlogged areas is adversely affecting their crops," rued the farmers during their interaction with the chief minister.
Meanwhile, the CM asked irrigation and drainage officials to chalk out a strategy to solve the problem of waterlogging in the fields of farmers on priority basis and also prepare a 'master plan' for a long-term solution.
