Chief minister's principal secretary SK Sandhu, who visited mandis in Garhshankar, Saila Khurd and Mahilpur on Saturday, said 39 lakh tonnes of paddy had been procured in the state by Friday of which 89% had been purchased by government agencies.
He claimed that procurement was going on smoothly throughout the state.
Sandhu interacted with farmers and commission agents to know if they were facing any problem in the mandis. He was told that some of the commission agents were yet to get smart cards, which was delaying Pungrain payments.
The commission agents demanded that till the time the "RuPay Debit Card" became available, payment through cheques should be allowed. He said he would talk to the authorities concerned to sort out the problem.
In the Saila Khurd mandi, Sandhu inspected the weighing machines and ensured that the crop was being weighed correctly. He was accompanied by deputy commissioner Deepinder Singh, additional deputy commissioner BS Dhaliwal and district mandi officer Nirmal Singh.
