Chief minister Parkash Singh Badal has appealed to religious leaders across the state to start a movement to protect the environment from degradation.

Badal was addressing a gathering at the Nirmal Kutiya of renowned environmentalist Baba Balbir Singh Seechewal at Seechewal in Kapurthala. The CM said Seechewal deserved praise for bringing the issue of environment to the people's attention. He was there to pay tributes to Sant Avtar Singh on his 24th death anniversary.

He said all religious leaders should start a united drive to protect the environment and sensitise people to the issue of environment protection.

He added that Seechewal's work for cleaning the Kali Bein rivulet has been appreciated at the national and international level. Badal added that cleaning the water sources and under-ground water in state was the priority of the state government.
