Cold claims another life in Amritsar

The biting cold claimed another life in the city on Saturday. The body of deceased, an unidentified mendicant, was recovered from Majitha Road area.

Head Constable Hardip Singh of B Division police station said on Sunday that the deceased had apparently succumbed to the prevailing cold wave. He added that efforts were being made to identify the deceased.

This is the second death in the city due to cold in the past couple of days. Another unidentified mendicant had died due to the extreme weather on Friday.

Meanwhile, the city remained shrouded in the fog for a large part of the day on Sunday. Feeble sunshine was witnessed past noon and lasted not more than a few hours.

The city's maximum and minimum temperatures were recorded at 14.3 degrees and 6.0 degrees respectively on Sunday.

The weatherman has predicted fog for Amritsar from January 5 to January 10 with the maximum and minimum temperatures estimated to be around 13.0 degrees and 4.0 degrees respectively during these days. Amritsar is likely to experience dry weather during the next four days.
