Cold war between independent councillor, MC chief settled

punjab Updated: Aug 31, 2014 19:55 IST

Almost two weeks after some independent councillors accused the municipal corporation (MC) commissioner of using unparliamentary language during a sangat darshan, the former after a meeting with the commissioner on Sunday said the matter had been resolved.

High drama was witnessed at the meeting hall of MC's Zone-A when MC commissioner Pradeep Kumar Agarwal allegedly asked security personnel to remove the independent councillors, who had come to raise problems of their respective wards, during a sangat darshan on August 19.
Following the incident, Agarwal had conducted the sangat darshan at his office on August 26.

Earlier, the independent councillors were demanding action against the commissioner and had also written to the chief minister.
Sources said following the incident, the CM had directed the mayor to help the councillors and commissioner reach a compromise, and a meeting in this regard was conducted on Saturday.

Independent councillor Anita Kharbanda said, “The matter is resolved now. The commissioner has assured us to look into the pending works after listening to our demands.”

Despite repeated attempts, mayor Harcharan Singh Gohalwaria could not be contacted.
