An intense cold wave swept Himachal Pradesh as minimum temperatures dropped below the freezing point on Sunday. Tourist town of Manali recorded season’s lowest with -3 degrees celsius, while Keylong in the tribal district of Lahaul and Spiti recorded a minimum temperature of -4.6 degrees celsius.
State’s capital town Shimla recorded a minimum temperature of 3.4 degree celsius, while Kalpa in Kinnaur district and Seobagh in Kullu recorded a minimum of -2.2 degrees- and 1.5 degrees respectively. In last 24 to 48 hours, night temperature has decreased by a few notches, while day temperature has increased due to dry weather and partially clear sky.
Tourists and locals in Manali faced inconvenience due to frozen water pipe and roads. Icy winds forced people to remain indoors in Manali and other hilly areas.
Snowfall on Friday elated farmers, especially apple growers in the state. However, people in urban areas, including students, faced difficulties due to cold.
Shimla meteorological centre director Manmohan Singh said weather is expected to remain dry till next 2-3 days. “More rains and snow is expected on and after December 16. Due to snow at higher reaches night temperature may not witness significant change in next 24 hours,” he added.
