A girl has accused the police of not acting against a cop whom she charged with having raped her for over a year on the promise of marrying her, but later he denied to do so.

The victim, a second year student of DAV College here and a resident of a village in Muktsar district, talking to mediapersons at the Teacher's Home here on Wednesday alleged that Amrik Singh, a resident of Naruana village, who was deployed as a security guard with a DSP rank officer in Bathinda, had started meeting her in October 2013 and developed physical relations with her promising to marry her.

She said she was living as a paying guest in Bathinda. "The cop even took me to a local gurdwara and promised to marry me, but, later, he bluntly refused to marry me in November," she alleged.

"I approached then SSP Gurpreet Singh Bhullar but to no avail," she alleged. She said she also lodged a written complaint with the present SSP Inder Mohan Singh Bhatti on December 15, but the police have not acted against the accused cop.

Amrik, however, denied the allegation and said that he and the woman were only good friends, but as he came to know that she was having an affair with another person, he stopped meeting her.

Bhatti said that the woman had come to him and he had marked an inquiry by an SP level officer in the case. The police would act only after the inquiry report was received, he added.
