The Tarn Taran Police on Tuesday booked a student of the Shiv Shankar Engineering College for allegedly attacking Prof Mahan Singh, a resident of Sarhali Klan village.

The accused has been identified as Gursewak Singh, 22, a resident of village Chuslewarh, falling in the Patti subdivision.

The teacher was allegedly attacked by a group of students of the same institute on Monday evening when he was returning to home after college hours.

Students attacked him with sharp-edged weapons leaving him injured. He was taken to the Civil Hospital in Patti, where his condition is reportedly out of danger.

In the complaint lodged with the police, the teacher alleged that one of the attackers was caught by a flying squad during an examination last April for cheating. He alleged that the accused had been threatening him since then.

Station House Officer of Patti Rajwinder Kaur said after recording the victim’s statement, a case had been registered against the accused under relevant sections of the Indian penal code in the Patti police station and the police had nabbed him subsequently.
