College student killed in accident

A 22-year-old student of Mata Gujari college, Gurvinder Singh, a resident of Raipur Arya village here, was killed in an accident on Monday.

The accident took place when a speeding truck (RJ 02 GA 7282), coming from the opposite side, got involved in a head-on collision with the motorcycle he was driving at the focal-point crossing on the GT road. Pillion rider Harmanpreet Singh, a resident of Miyapur, was seriously injured.

Station house officer (SHO), Mandi Goindgarh, Ajay Pal Singh, said that Gurvinder Singh, along with his friend Harmanpreet Singh, was going to attend a class on his bike when he met with the accident.

Singh said that, during preliminary investigations, it has been found that the truck driver was overtaking another truck and, as he lost control, the truck rammed into the bike.

Singh said that the truck driver managed to flee from the spot but the truck was impounded. A case for rash driving and causing death has been registered against the driver.
