Commencement of work on Network for Spectrum for Punjab region inaugurated

The general officer commanding (GOC), Golden Arrow Division, inaugurated the commencement of work on Network for Spectrum (NFS) project - optical fibre cable (OFC) network, a pan-India project for Indian defence services, for Punjab region here on Saturday.

Rohit Sharma, general manager (NFS project), BSNL, and RK Sharma, vice president (projects) Vindhya Telelinks, the firm executing the project for Punjab region, were also present on the occasion.

The GOC complimented the Corps of Singals on the successful planning and extensive coordination carried out for materialisation of the futuristic project.

The GOC, stressing the importance of communication in a battle, said that in the present era of network-centric operations, communication is a force multiplier. He further highlighted the importance of the project for the enhancement of operational communication of the army.

He dwelt on the impact the project would have on the network-centric warfare capabilities of the army in terms of enhanced voice, data and real- time video services.
