Cong accuses Akalis of misleading by laying foundation stones

punjab Updated: Nov 18, 2014 01:03 IST

Accusing Punjab deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal of misleading the people by making false claims of development, the district unit of the Congress on Monday held a protest in the city.

Led by PPCC vice president Surinderpal Singh Sibia, Congress workers held a protest at the site where a foundation stone of a sewerage treatment plant was laid by Sukhbir Singh Badal on February 28, but the work could not be started.

"While laying the foundation stone for the sewerage treatment plant, Sukhbir had claimed that the 15 MLD sewerage treatment plant would be a long-lasting solution for the problem of sewerage. On the stone a long list of names of top Akali leaders is inscribed."

However, he said, even after eight months, no funds have been released and no tenders floated to start the so- called development work."

Addressing party workers, Sibia said that the Akali government was fond of laying foundation stones to give a false and hollow impression of development.

Sibia said that thousands of such foundation stones were laid before the Lok Sabha elections in the state, but work has not been started on any of the projects.

He said that the people of the state are fed up with the false promises and have decided to dethrone the Akali-BJP combine in the next assembly elections in 2017.
