Cabinet minister Bikram Singh Majithia has said that 'misgovernance' of the Congress-led UPA has pushed the country into a crisis and people are committed to topple the UPA and bring the NDA to power.

Majithia, who was addressing a rally after paying tributes to the 282 martyrs of Kalian Wala Khuh here on Monday, said, "The wrong economic policies of the UPA have left the common man gasping. The basic amenities and essential commodities are diggning deep into the pockets of the common man and the Congress seems to be in no hurry to ease people from the burden of price hike."

"Due to its policies, the Congress-led UPA stands exposed and it is time to wipe out the Congress party in the next Lok Sabha polls," he added.

Accusing the Congress party of discriminating against Punjab, the Majithia said, "Congress has always preferred other states when it comes to giving some package or relief. This time also, the Centre did the same by not giving Punjab the drought relief. Lower tax slab in neighbouring states is also an indication of step-motherly treatment to Punjab," the minister said.

He said that the SAD-BJP was thankful to the people of Punjab for showing faith in it and bringing the alliance back to power. "Punjab will be better placed, if the NDA is voted to power at the Centre," he said.

Having a dig at Rahul Gandhi, who is scheduled the state this month, Majithia said, "We are happy that Rahul Gandhi is coming to Punjab. Wherever he has gone, the Congress has performed poorly," adding, "the Youth Akali Dal is even ready to make boarding arrangements for Rahul."

Member of Parliament Rattan Singh Ajnala said, "Even though the contribution Punjabis is immense in every field, still the Congress has ignored the state over the years." The commitment people of Punjab showed towards SAD-BJP in the Vidhan Sabha polls needed to be repeated in the Lok Sabha polls he said. "Farmers of Punjab serve the entire country but the Congress has done nothing to help them," he added.

Earlier, Majithia inaugurated a gate built in memory of the martyrs of Kalian Wala Khuh. The minister also visited the site and paid tributes to the martyrs.

It was the 155th death anniversary of the 282 martyrs of Kalian Wala Khuh.

Chief parliamentary secretary Amarpal Singh Bony, Inderbir Bolaria, Harmeet Sandhu and others were also present.
