Former union minister for law and justice and Rajya Sabha MP Ashwani Kumar on Saturday said keeping in view the sentiments of party workers in Punjab, the Congress high command is likely to take decision on the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) president Partap Singh Bajwa in the near future.
The party leadership is pondering over the matter, Kumar added.
Kumar said this while addressing mediapersons at his residence here. He, however, refused to comment on Bajwa’s performance as the PPCC president.
He said party president Sonia Gandhi had led the Congress efficiently and would continue leading it and there was no question of change in the top leadership of the party. He said if the need be, the Gandhi family would meet and decide on who would lead the party in future and the decision would be acceptable to all Congress leaders and workers.
With Congress’ debacle in the recent general elections the morale of party workers had gone down, he said, adding they would function more wisely to strengthen the party in the coming days.
He advised the party leaders and workers from Punjab to work together and shun factionalism for the betterment of the party. He said Congress leaders should play the role of a constructive opposition in Punjab.
The party MLAs should regularly keep in touch with the people of their respective assembly segments and raise their problems in the Punjab Vidhan Sabha and get them solved to strengthen their base in their constituencies, he said.
The Congress MP termed the SAD-BJP government a total failure in Punjab. He said the people were reeling under the burden of extra taxes and electricity tariff. He accused the Badal government of letting the Punjab economy go astray from the path of development through misrule.
