The Ludhiana police arrested vice-president of rural wing of district Congress on Friday for circulating morphed video of singer and politician Satwinder Kaur Bitti on social networking sites and WhatsApp groups.
The accused has been identified as Mohan Singh of Guru Teg Bahadur Nagar.
Satwinder Kaur Bitti contested assembly election 2017 from Sahnewal constituency on a Congress ticket against SAD candidate Sharanjit Singh Dhillon.
The video had surfaced just before the announcement of candidates for assembly elections 2017.
In her complaint to Ludhiana police commissioner, Bitti said that the morphed video was being circulated on social media to malign her reputation.
Avtar Singh, brother of the singer, said that the video was reportedly circulated by Mohan Singh in a WhatsApp group named ‘Tigers Group’ .
Koom Kalan station house officer (SHO) Harjinder Singh said the police have arrested the accused. The investigations are underway to police have been questioning him to know other persons involved in the crime.
A case under Sections 66E, 67, 67-A of Information Technology Act, 354-C, 500 and 501 of IPC and Section 6 of indecent representation of women (prohibition) act has been registered against him at the police station of Koom Kalan.
