Senior Congress leader Rajinder Kaur Bhattal has lashed out at chief minister Parkash Singh Badal and deputy chief minister Sukhbir Badal for “vitiating the atmosphere” of Punjab by “holding the so-called Sadbhawna” rallies, which would “further fuel confrontation in the already charged-up atmosphere”.
The former chief minister was reacting to the first such rally held at Bathinda on Monday.
Taking a dig at the Badals, Bhattal said both Badal and Sukhbir, along with other Akali ministers, who dared not venture out of their well-guarded houses a few days ago, were now holding sadbhawna rallies.
“In reality, they are ‘mandbhawna rallies’ with the intention of further dividing people,” she said, adding that by holding such “state-controlled and stage-managed rallies”, the Badals could not hoodwink the progressive people of Punjab, who had realised their hidden agenda.
By using the huge government machinery, in which the transport department was roped in to forcibly bring in the crowds, the state government could not befool the people of Punjab, Bhattal said.
