Union minister for women and child development Maneka Gandhi on Monday accused the Congress of misleading the public, especially farmers, on the land acquisition bill.
Maneka said the bill was in the favour of farmers as well as industrialists. The BJP minister was in Ferozepur to inaugurate an exhibition highlighting the achievements of the NDA government in the last one year.
"The NDA government has achieved in one year what the Congress could not in the last fifty years," said Maneka addressing party cadres.
Accompanied by Punjab BJP chief Kamal Sharma, Maneka, who is touring Punjab to spread awareness about development schemes initiated by the NDA government, Maneka said: "The Congress is misleading the nation on the land acquisition bill which would open various development avenues in the country."
"For farmers, PM Modi has launched Kissan Channel which would showcase better scientific farming techniques. Specially designed skill-oriented programmes for youth would help them in self-employment ," said the minister.
Later, Maneka paid floral tributes to martyrs Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev at their memorial in Hussainiwala, about 10 km from Ferozepur.
The National Students Union of India (NSUI), led by Punjab president Iqbal Grewal, state in charge Davinder Yadav and Gurbhej Singh Tibbi staged a protest outside the circuit house where Maneka was addressing the media.
Grewal said the NDA government had failed on every front and the people in the country were feeling cheated as it has not kept its promises.
The police took all NSUI protesters into custody and later released them.
