Gurdaspur District Congress Committee (DCC) president and MLA Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa on Saturday condemned the action of the Akali MPs in the Lok Sabha on Friday, when his party MP Ravneet Singh Bittu raised the issue of diversion of funds meant for various centrally sponsored schemes by the Punjab government.

In a statement issued here, he sought to remind the Akali MPs that state finance minister Parminder Singh Dhindsa himself had admitted that the SAD-BJP government had diverted a sum of Rs 2,000 crore received from the Centre for various schemes during its last tenure.

The minister had admitted that due to non-release of Central funds by the state government, schemes pertaining to health, irrigation, agriculture, and rural development had suffered, the MLA said.

Randhawa said that instead of debating the important issue, the Akali MPs created a furore on the floor of the house. This clearly showed that the Akali government had no rationale or justified answer to the issue, he added.

Randhawa demanded a reply from Harsimrat Badal and the other MPs on the alleged misuse of funds. He demanded an immediate audit into the utilisation of such funds in Punjab.
