The Congress on Wednesday protested against the state government decision to auction farmer rest house (Kisaan Bhawan) on the Ferozepur Road. The auction will take place on Thursday.
Congress leaders, including member of Parliament Ravneet Singh Bittu, former minister Malkit Singh Dakha, senior leader KK Bawa and others, took part in the protest and demanded that the auction should not take place.
Even the Bharatiya Janata Party had recently staged a protest against the auction of the prime land of Kisaan Bhawan.
Bittu said the state of financial coffers of the government was evident from the desperation of the SAD-BJP government to auction various properties across Punjab through which they want to raise their income.
"Salaries of government employees have been blocked for past many months and now the government has come out with the way to sell prime lands to raise funds," alleged Bittu.
He said the BJP was also dramatising the situation by only protesting against the auction. "If they are serious about the issue, they could have come out of the alliance government immediately," said Bittu.
Senior Congress leader KK Bawa said the SAD-lead state government had failed miserably on every front.
He added that the industrial growth of the state had also declined and unemployment had increased. "Now the government wants to sell every land to raise funds," said Bawa.
