As the municipal corporation (MC) has failed to ensure basic amenities to city residents three years after MC elections, Congress is all set to stage a big protest against the ruling house of SAD-BJP.

Congress has decided to lock the gates of MC Zone-A office on Friday, as the MC has failed to provide relief from contaminated water, broken roads, unsanitary conditions, non-functioning traffic lights and harassment of visitors at MC offices.

Member of Parliament (MP) Ravneet Singh Bittu had given 15 days ultimatum to the civic body to sort out the issues related to public and speed up the developmental issues otherwise they would stage a protest.

District president of Congress (Urban) Gurpreet Gogi claimed that they would lock the MC Zone-A office on June 12, as the civic body has done nothing in the past three years after MC elections were held in 2012. He said MP Ravneet Singh Bittu will lead the protest.

Gogi, who is councillor from ward number 53, said, “The MC has even failed to provide safe drinking water to the residents. Dozers to chlorinate water are non-functioning, while contaminated water is causing diseases in city residents.”

“Internal roads of many areas are crying for attention, but the MC has failed to take steps. The financial condition of MC is not good,” he said.

He further claimed that the residents generally face harassment at the MC offices of various zones, but the authorities concerned have failed to ensure better services to them.

“The condition of parks is poor, while the city lacks sanitation. Residents are forced to live under hell-like conditions at many places. No steps are being taken to ensure proper sanitation in disease-prone areas of the city,” Gogi said.

The Congressmen also claimed that the civic body has also failed to ensure proper lifting of garbage as the heaps of garbage welcome the people at different places.

It is required to mention here that the Congress that is in opposition in the MC House is not highlighting their issues properly in the House meetings. However, the Congress councillors also alleged that the mayor has failed to call a House meeting every month as per norms.
