Congress workers led by party leader Vinay Mahajan protested in Sujanpur town near Pathankot against the state government's policies and disrupted traffic on the Pathankot- Jammu national highway near bridge number five for almost an hour.

The agitated workers later burnt an effigy of the SAD-BJP government opposite Sujanpur civil hospital. Former Congress minister Raman Bhalla also joined the protest rally and termed the protest as “outburst” of city residents who have been burdened with taxes time and again.

Mahajan in his address claimed that in the present regime, only MLAs and ministers of the ruling parties were enjoying while the common man was struggling to survive in the wake of imposition of various taxes.

Mahajan said that though poor people visit the civil hospitals across the state, the Badal government had increased charges of all treatment instead of providing free medical facilities.

The Congress leader said that residents of urben areas were also hit due to imposition of property tax.

“We will not now rest till the state government relieves the people of these painful conditions,” he remarked.
