Shiromani Akali Dal patron and Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal on Thursday was at his usual best mocking the Congress leaders who are shying away from contesting the Lok Sabha elections.

“Congress tan hun dubdi hoya jahaj hei ate us wich sawar Congress leader chhadd ke bhaj rahe han (The Congress is a sinking ship that its leaders are abandoning),” the CM said at Dana Mandi during a rally in favour of the SAD candidate from Ludhiana, Manpreet Ayali.

Referring to information minister Manish Tewari, he said that he was least interested in contesting from Ludhiana but was forced to. “Punjab Congress president Partap Singh Bajwa was brought out in cold sweat but still forced to contest from Gurdaspur,” he added.

Badal said senior BJP leader Arun Jaitley was second best to Narendra Modi in the BJP. “Having him as candidate from Amritsar is a matter of pride for us and the reason why former Congress chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh has said no to contesting against him,” Badal added. About Manpreet Singh Badal, he said the Congress had made him a scapegoat by fielding him from Bathinda.
