Union minister for food processing industries Harsimrat Kaur Badal challenged the Congress and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) to list their achievements for the welfare of farmers in Punjab and other states on Sunday.
While inaugurating development projects at village Mana, she said that the Congress and AAP have never done anything for the betterment of the farmers.
“The Congress and AAP are playing petty politics in the name of farmers just to get the political ground based on false promises as assembly elections are nearing,” said Harsimrat.
“Punjab Congress president Captain Amarinder Singh imposed electricity bills on the tube wells of farmers whereas SAD-BJP alliance is continuously providing free power to farmers for irrigation at Rs 5,000 crore annually. SAD-BJP government has launched welfare schemes for farmers which include doubling crop compensation, health insurance cover, she said.
The state government provided Rs 644 crore for the cotton crop damaged due to white-fly pest attack, Harsimrat said. She further said that Punjab government is successfully running welfare schemes such as Atta Dal scheme, Bhagat Puran Singh Health Insurance scheme and pension schemes covering different sections of the society.
“Punjab government is connecting all cites with four and six lanes outlaying the investment of Rs 40,000 crores and the uninterrupted road connectivity will increase investment in the state, she said. She inaugurated a gym hall, panchayat house and community centre shed at village established under the Sansad Gram Yojana.
