The Congress and the BSP have decided to jointly fight the forthcoming block and zila parishad elections in Nakodar and Nurmahal. Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee general secretary and former Nurmahal MLA Gurwinder Singh Atwal told Hindustan Times that this decision was taken in a meeting between Congress and BSP leaders recently.

He said a broad understanding had been reached on seat-sharing in Nakodar, Mehatpur and Nurmahal blocks and their main aim was to defeat the ruling SAD-BJP combine, which were pursuing "anti-people" policies. Sources said the Congress would contest 10 seats and BSP five in each block and zila parishad zone.
