Local Congress MLA Kuljit Singh Nagra, along with Fatehgarh Sahib Congress MP Sukhdev Singh Libra, met deputy commissioner (DC) Yashvir Mahajan on Monday and alleged Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) general secretary and former MP Prof Prem Singh Chandumajra -SAD incharge of the Fatehgarh Sahib constituency - for exercising extraconstitutional authority.

Under the Centre-sponsored Panchyat Yuva Aur Khel Abhiyan scheme (PYAKA), a grant of Rs 1 lakh each was sanctioned to 44 villages across five blocks of the district and another Rs 5 lakh was granted to a block panchayat for 2010-11 .

Cheques of Rs 49 lakh were sent to the district sports office for further distribution to the concerned villages. Nine villages in Amloh block, 7 in Khamano, 11 in Bassi Pathana, 10 in Sirhind and 7 in Khera block were selected for the Rs 1 lakh grant, while Panjoli was selected for the grant of Rs 5 lakh.

Nagra, who had defeated Prof Chandumajra in the last assembly elections from the Fatehgarh Sahib constituency, alleged that when the local sports office was approached, it was learnt that Prof Chandumajra had already taken the cheques for the Fatehgarh block and had even started distributing them.

Prof Chandumajra did not have the authority to take the cheques, as he was neither an elected representative of the people nor any government functionary, said Nagra, demanding an enquiry against Prof Chandumajra.

He said SAD MLA from Bassi Pathana, Nirmal Singh, had taken the grant cheques for distribution in his constituency, but it was not objectionable as he was an elected representative of the people.
