'Congress leaders in fray not by choice but out of compulsion'

Targeting Congress leaders for being in fray due to compulsion, Punjab revenue minister Bikram Singh Majithia on Friday said one after the other Congress leaders were refusing to contest the election and many were leaving the party even after they had been “forcibly” given the tickets.

Citing an example of Congress candidate Ramesh Chander Tomar from Gautam Budh Nagar (Noida), Majithia said seeing the Congress’s imminent defeat To marjoined the BJP on Friday. “The Congress leaders are trying to jump into the bandwagon of the BJP in hoards, due to the message written on the wall that the next government at the Centre will be of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) with Narendra Modi as its prime minister.”

Hitting out at Cong ress candidate from Amritsar Capt Amarinder Singh, Majithia said: “I believe in development and the people of my constituency know this very well, I do not issue threats like you (Captain).’’

Majithia added that the Akali leaders and workers would not bow to the fake threats and foul language being used by Captain. “We do not resort to such language and you should comment on issues confronting the public and not the personal, ”he said.

He, meanwhile, said the outburst of Captain was just because of the frustration that he was being forced to contest the Amritsar seat. “We know that he wanted to take rest in the hills and did not want to contest, but was forced to do so by her party president Sonia Gandhi. He is frustrated and does not know what he is saying, ”added Majithia.

Heagain rake dup the issue of non- availability of Amarinder to the public and his own leaders and how people were set to force him out of Amritsar during the elections.

He reminded Capt of how he failed as CM of the state and people voted for Parkash Singh Badal. He said they did not resort to the policy of victimisation as did Captain during his rule and registered false cases against Badal and Sukhbir Singh Badal.

“He did not spare even the female members of the Badal family. We never resor ted to such kind of political vendetta, ”said Majithia.
