Congress oppose MLA's vote in samiti election

Punjab Congress on Thursday alleged ruling Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) of using unfair means to grab block samitis in the state where it has not secured majority.

Former MLA Amarjit Singh Samar told media persons here that secretary rural deployment and panchayat in an official communication to additional deputy commissioner (development) SAS Nagar attached copy of old Punjab Panchayat Raj Act 1994, which says that MLA have the right to vote in the meeting of the panchayat samiti elections.

Samar said that according to section 99 sub section 2 of the Act (amended) volume 2013, MLA cannot cast his vote for election or removal of chairman or vice chairman.

Samra alleged that the government is giving benefit to MLA attaching old act to officials. He has demanded that secretary should demand his clarification and issue copies of amended Act of 2013.
Congress leader said Nakodar block samiti's meeting has been convened on August 5 to elect chairman and vice chairman.

He said that MLA 's vote would ensure SAD's victory as Congress and BSP alliance has 9 members and SAD has 9 in 18 members block samiti.
