As demonetisation continues to trouble the residents, the local Congress members organised a protest in the commercial hub of Amritsar, Katra Jaimal Singh, to slam the government regarding the issue.

Led by senior Congress leader and sitting MLA from Amritsar (central) constituency Om Parkash Soni, party leaders, workers and shopkeepers staged a strong protest against the Modi-lead government. As Katra Jaimal Singh is a commercial hub, the protest was to showcase the pain of the shopkeepers whose business has suffered due to the currency ban.

Protest was held right in the middle of the bazaar and effigy of Prime Minister Modi was also burnt. Addressing the gathering, Congress MLA OP Soni said, “This step by Modi government is a disaster. Today people are suffering due to this unplanned decision.”

Are the people standing in queues having black money? questioned Soni.

The MLA also said that due to the said decision of government the shopkeepers and small time traders were bearing the maximum brunt.
